Good afternoon, this is reporter Fred Flintstone reporting on the day I spent with Mr. L's fifth grade class. It was a chilly morning, so I headed right into Myerstown Elementary and quickly found the classroom.

Our Wednesday morning
began with a few students asking Mr. L if we could change seats today. He replied, "I promised we would this week, but it won´t be today." Shortly after that we headed to the computer lab for CCC. CCC is a program on the computer that gives us math problems to prepare for the PSSA. Following CCC, we began our morning work.

In Balanced Literacy, we finished reading Mariah Keeps Cool. This is a story about a young girl named Mariah who is planning a party for her friend.
Upon finishing the story, we answered a question from the book in a written paragraph.

Soon Officer Lois entered the room and it was time for D.A.R.E. We learned different strategies for saying no to drugs. The strategies were put into action when we created short plays using them.

After D.A.R.E. came math. In Mr. L´s math class, we practiced adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. To do this, you must first write equivalent fractions that have the same denominators. Unfortunately, we were given homework.

The last lesson before recess was spelling. We learned how to break words with a VCCCV pattern into syllables. We got out our whiteboards and played a game of mummy ball to practice breaking the words into syllables. We also got homework in spelling. :-(

After recess and lunch, we had a brief writing session. We are writing narratives. This lasted up until it was time to pack up and go home (the best part of the day).

It was an exciting Wednesday! I´d have to say the highlight was the plays performed in D.A.R.E. They were informational and funny. That´s all for this Wednesday. Be sure to check out the other Roving Reporter Articles!
